Choosing the perfect glasses can be difficult. As explained in our guide How to choose your glasses?, face shape plays an important role in your choice of frames. However, this is not the only criterion to consider. Indeed, skin color is also a factor, so you can choose a frame color that enhances it.
In this practical guide, learn which eyeglass colors are best suited to different skin tones.
The different complexions
Warm complexions
Warm complexions generally have yellow or green undertones. For this type of complexion, we recommend frames in warm colors, such as brown, gold, orange, and yellow.
Cold complexions
Cool complexions tend to have pink undertones and therefore go well with cool colors such as black, purple, blue, and more.
The different skin tones
Fair skins
For fair-skinned people, we recommend brightly colored glasses, in order to brighten up the complexion. More specifically, wearing vibrant colors when you have a fair complexion helps to contrast and create a healthy glow all year round. Dark frames will also look great on fair skins.
For fair skins with warm undertones, go for colors such as brown, gold or purple, for example.
Fair skins with cool undertones will go perfectly with blue or pink frames.
Intermediate skins
If you have an intermediate skin tone, i.e. neither too light nor too dark, you have an almost unlimited choice of frame color! This choice will depend solely on your personal taste and the style you wish to adopt, from sophisticated neutrals to vibrant colors for a touch of fun!
If you have an intermediate skin with warm undertones, you can opt for a brown, gold or tortoiseshell frame, for example.
Intermediate skins with cold undertones, on the other hand, go very well with colors such as purple and red.
Ginger skins
People with red hair generally tend to have rather pale skin and freckles. In order to highlight these, you can opt for a green or golden frame. However, it's best to avoid red or orange tones.
Dark skins
Matte to black complexions can be combined with a wide range of colors. In fact, you can either opt for vibrant colors or more metallic shades. Bright colors will stand out wonderfully on your dark skin, and metallic colors such as gold or silver will illuminate your skin.
For darker skins with warm undertones, a gold or tortoiseshell frame would suit you perfectly.
Darker skins with cool undertones go well with black, blue or green.
